Willis Carrier Biography and Profile

Willis Haviland Carrier (born November 26, 1876 in Angola (New York);  7 October 1950) was an American engineer and inventor. He is considered the father of modern air conditioning.

In 1895 he received a scholarship from Cornell University and graduated in 1901 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Willis Carrier then worked for the Buffalo Forge Company, in the department for the development of heating systems for timber and coffee. He developed a better way to measure the capacity of heating systems and has been Director of Development.

At the age of 25, Willis Carrier developed a system for regulating temperature and humidity for the Sackett-Wilhelms Lithographing and Publishing Company in Brooklyn. In 1906 he received a patent this. Carrier Air Conditioning Company was first established as a subsidiary of Buffalo Forge. As a result of the First World War, Buffalo Forge separated from the business with Carrier air conditioners and six colleagues founded the Carrier Engineering Corporation. In the 1930s he moved it to Syracuse (New York). In 1930 he founded Toyo Carrier and Samsung Applications in Japan and South Korea, the world’s largest market for air conditioning. Only in 1919 were in the U.S. for the first time provided a movie theater and a department store with a designed by Willis Carrier Air Conditioning, 1939 Packard offered to the first vehicle manufacturer, an air conditioner.
